BMBE-lassen staat ook wel bekend als elektrodelassen of SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding). Het is een elektrisch lasproces waarbij een afsmeltende beklede elektrode wordt gebruikt. De bekleding van de elektrode smelt mee en vormt op die manier beschermende gassen en een slak, die het smeltbad beschermen tegen de lucht.
Omdat er geen extern beschermgas nodig is, is dit proces ideaal voor verschillende werkzaamheden buiten, zoals constructie- en reparatiewerk aan verschillende staalsoorten. Het wordt ook regelmatig ingezet bij montagewerkzaamheden op locatie.
